A mum has shared a clever way to unblock toilets using a common household item that everyone has in their kitchen.
TikTok mum @Capricesmum posted a video on her social media channel showing the method she uses and it attracted more than 900 comments. It simply involves using washing up liquid.
She said: "My brother taught me this & it works EVERYTIME. Every house needs to know this hack when you get a blocked toilet." She further explained: "You get some washing up liquid and squirt at the back of the pan like this, leave for 30 seconds to a minute, simply flush and the blockage is gone."

The mum said the washing up liquid works as a lubricant, helping blockages pass through the toilet with ease. You can pick up a bottle of washing up liquid for 70p, making this a cost-friendly hack, reports The Mirror.
Of the people who commented on the video, some were familiar with this method, but others were impressed, and many more had their own sorry tales of mishaps around blocked toilets. "Washing up liquid seems to fix everything!" one person wrote.
Another added: "It works better with hot water. I’ve been doing this for years."
Even the professionals took note, with one saying: "I have been a plumber for 20 years in Sydney Australia I have spent 50k on drain clearing equipment when all I needed was soap wow." But spare a thought for this TikToker, who admitted: "Wish I saw this before I stuck my hand in the toilet."
"Am I the only one who uses old coat hangers?" added another, while one asked: "Am I the only one who get branches out the garden."
