Tiffany jewellery boss dies after falling into sea from cruise at 3am on dream holiday

The wealthy owner of Tiffany's jewellery in Turkey has died after falling from a cruise ship during a dream holiday.

Dilek Ertek, 71, is believed to have died after plunging into South Pacific off the coast of Tahiti from the Norwegian Spirit ship on 26th October.

Her body is yet to be recovered.

Ms Etrek was the distributor of Tiffany's in Turkey for over two decades and her son Gokce Atuk also said jewellery had gone missing from the safe in his mother's cabin.

CCTV on the ship shows that she sadly fell into the sea at around 3 am, but her boyfriend reported that she was missing exactly 20 hours later, which led to her family urging the police to investigate her Swiss lover.

The 74-year-old lover was kept under observation by the ship's crew in a separate cabin before they docked in Tahiti three days later.

He was reportedly questioned by police in Tahiti before being released due to a lack of evidence. He has since returned to Switzerland.

Experts are dumbfounded over how Ms Ertek – who was just over 5’1 – was able to fall over the three-feet-high guard rail to her cabin.

Captain Mustafa Can reportedly said: "It is difficult to fall from this type of passenger and cruise ship."

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, an officer made the following statements in his social media post: "I see that 2 people went on a vacation together and even made a special travel plan such as a birthday celebration.

"Assuming that Dilek Hanım and her lover are staying in the same cabins, I find it very suspicious that the missing situation is not reported. Because on cruise ships, daily activities and entertainment are organised frequently, and everyone is in contact with each other.

"People who cannot hear from each other inform the front desk and make an announcement. So it is confusing that the news of the disappearance is given 20 hours later."
