Mikel Arteta is preparing for a huge summer ahead of him and his Arsenal squad. While the Gunners largely impressed in the last campaign, it wasn’t enough to secure a top-four finish.
By missing out on a return to the Champions League, they will instead be playing in the Europa League. This will add more fixtures to the season, only adding to the need for additions over the transfer window.
The midfield could be a particular focus of Arteta’s, with there being little cover beyond the duo of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey. With that said, here’s a look at a few different ways the side could line up with some central signings.

Youri Tielemans
The Leicester midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, with his contract expiring in 2023. Tielemans seems destined to make a move away from the King Power, offering a potential bargain for the Gunners.
The 25-year-old's box-to-box playing style would suit him playing next to Thomas Partey in place of Granit Xhaka.
Yves Bissouma
Bissouma is another who has been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with his contract also running down at Brighton. The Mali international is best known for his physical style in the middle of the park, allowing him to defend well but also break up the pitch when needed.
The 25-year-old would also be best placed next to Partey in the middle third, allowing the Ghanaian to sit deeper and sweep up.
Fabian Ruiz
The Napoli midfielder is a versatile option, who is also coming to the end of his current contract. The 26-year-old can either play as an attacking midfielder or in a more defensive role when required.
His vision and passing are his top attributes, making him a slightly more advanced forward option than the other two. This would require him to sit alongside a defensive sweeper, a role best suited to Partey once again.
