Three men arrested for alleged match fixing released without charge

Three people who had been arrested for alleged match fixing have been released without charge.

The arrests happened after gardai carried out "a day of action" today in relation to alleged match-fixing in the League of Ireland.

Two men, aged in their 30's, were arrested in the Dublin region on suspicion of the offence of Conspiracy to Defraud contrary to Common Law and were being held at a south Dublin garda station. A third man, also aged in his 30's, was arrested in the Eastern region on suspicion of the same offence.

A file is being prepared for for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The investigation is ongoing with gardai appealing for people with information to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: "The three people arrested earlier today have been released without charge. Files will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"The investigation is ongoing and An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to any person who has information in relation to match-fixing or sports corruption to report the matter in confidence to the Bribery and Corruption Confidential Reporting line – 1800 40 60 80 the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or to their local Garda Station."
