IMPHAL: Three cadres of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA), a Kuki militant group which signed a ceasefire pact with the government, have been arrested for celebratory firing during a victory procession to celebrate the winning of Kuki People’s Alliance’s (KPA) candidate Kimneo Hangshing in the recently held Manipur assembly polls from Kangpokpi district’s Saikul constituency.
The celebratory firing occurred at Lhungtin village near T Gamnom designated camp of KRA in Saikul seat on Thursday afternoon, SP (Kangpokpi) Amrita Sinha said on Monday.
Three different video clips of the incident that went viral on the the social media showed some unknown men with automatic rifles and pistols firing several bullets in the air seemingly as a mark of celebrating the success of Kimneo who was also seen heading a victory procession with her supporters on the street.
Over 25 Kuki militant groups operating in the state, including KRA, had signed a tripartite Suspension of Operation (SOO), and cadres of these groups are putting up at different designated camps set up by the government at Kuki-dominated areas.
These groups, which had earlier demanded a separate Kuki state within Manipur, had recently sought for a (Kuki) territorial council and political dialogue on this agenda has also started.
