The Imphal valley in strife-torn Manipur has been rocked this week by protests by students, clashes with security personnel, stone-pelting at the Raj Bhavan, and tearing down of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s posters. Tensions escalated in Manipur’s Imphal on Tuesday as clashes broke out between students and security forces during a protest, despite a curfew being in place in several districts.

The Manipur government has imposed a five-day “temporary suspension or curbing of internet and mobile data services” across the state, along with curfews in Imphal East and West districts and prohibitory orders in Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching, as per The Hindu.

Students from various schools and colleges have staged massive protests in front of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Raj Bhavan in Imphal, expressing their dissatisfaction with the handling of the Manipur crisis.
