Thomas Tuchel's worrying Chelsea injury news amid Hakim Ziyech and Andreas Christensen absences

Thomas Tuchel has ruled Hakim Ziyech out of Chelsea clash against Luton Town.

The 48-year-old refused to be drawn into many specifics of the Blues' injury situation however due to the scale of his worries ahead of the FA Cup fixture.

Chelsea trained on Tuesday morning and the German coach said that there was a "long list" of players that the physios needed to work with.

Ziyech and Andreas Christensen were missing from the squad that travelled to Wembley for the Carabao Cup final. Ziyech was forced off the pitch against Lille in the Champions League through injury but returned to full training in advance of the Liverpool clash.

Christensen suffered a minor Achilles injury in the build up to the game having started the Blues last five matches after returning from having Covid-19.

Cesar Azpilicueta had to be substituted in the second half of the defeat at Wembley after picking up a knock, allowing for Reece James to make his much anticipated return from a hamstring injury.

James produced an impressive display but Tuchel admitted it was hoped he wouldn't have to play such a significant role.

He said: "Brilliant form but now with a huge overload on his shoulders. The recommendation was 20 minutes before the match and it was over 70 in a final with extra tension against Liverpool.

"The situation was very good before the match because we had only Ben Chilwell out and the situation changed dramatically. We have a lot of players in physical overload and we have some injuries from the match. In the moment it is too much to comment about it, it would be a long list and we need to see.

"We had training today, the physios and doctors are still working with the players finding out and we can take the last decisions tomorrow morning when we have the departure to Luton and see who is ready to play because we want to be ready to play. We suffered, it is third time we play overtime and it was an intense match, this is where we are."

The Blues boss did confirm that Ziyech was not involved in that training session however.

He added: "Hakim is not available tomorrow as he was not available for the final. Unfortunately he still feels uncomfortable. He was not in team training today, he was one of the guys who will miss the game tomorrow."
