Thomas Tuchel backed to complete Robert Lewandowski to Chelsea transfer this summer

Tony Cascarino claims Chelsea will be looking at Robert Lewandowski "every day of the week" as they mull over a summer swoop for the wantaway Bayern Munich superstar.

Lewandowski, 33, publicly declared his time at the Allianz Arena is "over" during an extraordinary press conference on Monday, meaning one of the greatest strikers of a generation could be on the move this summer. During his eight years with Bayern, the prolific Pole has scored 344 goals in 375 games while winning an astonishing 12 major honours.

His status as one of the continent's biggest icons means the transfer saga which is beginning to unfold is likely to dominate headlines throughout the summer. Lewandowski has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past and Chelsea could be at the front of the queue for his services given Romelu Lukaku is pushing for an exit.

Former Blues striker Cascarino believes it is a no-brainer for Thomas Tuchel to attempt to lure the player - whom he previously faced while manager of Borussia Dortmund - to Stamford Bridge. He told talkSPORT : "If he's (Tuchel is) given the option to go for Lewandwoski, you're gonna go for it, aren't you?

"He's worked with him, he knows exactly what he's like, he thinks he's guaranteed goals. Okay, he's 32, he might go like he did with Thiago Silva. I know he didn't bring him to Chelsea but he made it very clear in Paris to L'Equipe and everybody involved that he wanted to keep him at PSG. So, they've kept him again for next season."

Lewandowski has also been linked with Barcelona and it remains to be seen just how much Bayern will demand to part ways with the player, who has one year remaining on his contract. However, La Liga chiefs have cast doubt on the Catalans' ability to make the signing given their dire financial situation, paving the way for Chelsea to capitalise.

Speculating about a potential £20million to £25million asking price for Lewandowski, Cascarino added: "For Chelsea, that would be small change, wouldn't it? Okay, you'd have to give him a contract at the very highest end but, to me, if I could get that one over the line, I'm guaranteed.

"Chelsea missed goals in the centre-forward position all season. It's cost them so dearly. They've come third, they're world club champions, they're European champions. And, you know, they could have done with a real, ultimate goalscorer and he's one of them. You'd look at him every day of the week."
