This Morning 'already throwing a party' as Prime Minister Boris Johnson set to resign

This Morning viewers have accused the ITV show of 'throwing a party' amid the news that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will resign.

Thursday's episode of the ITV daytime show began with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby revealing that they were in a forest enjoying a festival.

The duo were joined by tribute band The Bootleg Beatles, as well as Phil Vickery, Josie Gibson and DJ Fat Tony as they presented a special edition of This Morning in the woods.

"Much like Boris, these guys are in a very reflective mood,' Phil joked, referring to two people who were dressed in silver mirror suits.

It comes after Lorraine was pulled off air early as the channel crossed over to ITV News to confirm that Boris Johnson will quit his role as leader of the country later today.

ITV viewers were certainly a bit confused and joked that This Morning were already celebrating Mr Johnson's departure.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "@thismorning already throwing a party the Boris is resigning #ThisMorning."

A fourth viewer tweeted: "#ThisMorning celebrating Boris resignation," while another added: "Meanwhile, #ThisMorning appear to be having a party in a forest."

Someone else joked: "Good to see ITV have got their finger on the pulse . . #ThisMorning goes ahead with a tribute band whilst the UK govt crumbles."

As Holly and Phil welcomed Gyles Brandreth into the forest to discuss the biggest news story of the day, Phil joked: "He's welcome to come down here and hold his leaving drinks if he wants to, it's all legal now!"

He also admitted: "We had no idea if we were actually going to get on air this morning!"

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
