Martin Lewis has revealed the 'scary' toll the cost of living crisis has had on him personally with his mental health. The admission comes as the money expert says he told Chancellor Rishi Sunak that he is 'virtually out of tools' to give people to save cash as bills skyrocket.
The Withington-born journalist also said that being called 'one of the most influential people in Britain' makes him want to 'vomit', as he struggles with the pressure of those relying on him for advice, both criticising and helping the government's financial policies, and campaigning about a host of other monetary issues.
“The last few years have been incredibly scary on a personal basis," he told the BBC's Nick Robinson on the Political Thinking podcast. "First with the pandemic when I found myself in an intermediary role between the government and the public, passing messages both ways. [About how you design the furlough programme], gaps that had been missed and how you operate it to the public."
