Halloween is fast approaching, so it's time to start thinking about how you want to decorate this year. And if you're a dab-hand at DIY, Michael Drew Scott of Lonefox has just shared a candle DIY that offers a beautiful mix of spooky and sophisticated.
A simple yet effective way to bring Halloween into your home decor, this candle trick only requires a few supplies – all of which you can buy on Amazon. And as far as DIY Halloween decor ideas go, this one is surprisingly tasteful. Here's how to recreate this eye-catching piece for your home.
Step one: Create a secure base for the DIY
To start, grab a small taper holder and cover it with a hardwearing and flame-resistant material like tin foil so you can hold the candle upright without ruining your holder. Make sure the candle is secure and won't move around during the DIY.
Step two: Drip red wax onto the taper candles
Once the taper candle is secure, you can begin adding the blood effect with a red wax stick. Simply light the end of the wax stick, and tilt it above the white taper candle to create a dripping effect. You can also use other color candles to match your interiors – black tapers would have a truly dramatic effect. Repeat this step for as many taper candles as you wish to add.
Step three: Create your Halloween display with a candelabra
Once your bloody taper candles are dry, it's time to create your display. You can either use single candle holders in varying heights, but for a statement decor piece like Drew's, opt for a large candelabra. Display it on a window sill, or fireplace, or turn it into an elevated Halloween table decor centerpiece.

White taper candles are a great choice if you really want the red drips to stand out. This pack has 12, so you have plenty to play with.
This is very similar to the candelabra Drew used for his DIY. We love the Gothic style of it, and it can be used beyond Halloween.
This DIY can't be done without red dripping wax. Again, this is the exact product Drew used to get the perfect drip effect.
If you prefer something more metallic, this gold candelabra is a lovely option. This would look striking with black tapers.
Black and red is a color combination synonymous with Halloween, and this 14-pack of black tapers is perfect for the project.
If you don't like the candelabra look, why not try using individual candle holders of varying heights? This offers a more flexible display.
