THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of a missing man has been found burned and putrefied in a vacant land near Mannamoola here on Saturday morning.
The body of Ajayakumar (68) of Ardram near Parayamkonam Lane at Cheruvakkal was found in the vacant land owned by one Sreedharan Nair of Irumarathu Lane near Kalavoorkonam at Peroorkada. He was missing since June 14 and his family had not registered any case at any police station. A photo identity card recovered from a shirt nearby the body helped police identify the person.
Police said he was an alcoholic and was staying with her daughter at Peroorkada for the last couple of weeks. Police suspect that it was a suicide and rule out any chance of any foul play. However, police could not answer how he committed suicide as the body was in a putrefied condition.
Police found a lighter and a cigarette packet from near the body and assume that he committed suicide by setting himself ablaze. A case has been registered under section 174 of CrPC for unnatural death and started investigation.
