Thiruvananthapuram-based artists showcase their works at expo

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 100 artworks by 23 city-based artists are on display at the ongoing exhibition-cum-sale at the Museum auditorium.

Artist Binu Perukavu has created a pictorial representation of the Malayalam song ‘Onninu sruthi thazhthi paduka poonkuyile’ at the exhibition. Most of the paintings depict the beauty of nature and exploitation of nature by humans.

Artist Chithramanesh depicted the theme of deforestation by including a broken tree that is being cared for by a child and a bird sobbing by its abandoned nest while sitting next to its eggs.

“We conduct the exhibition annually and the quality of works are getting better each year. Unity among the group members is a reason for that. We are also conducting one-day workshops across Thiruvananthapuram,” said chairman of Sankamitra Fine Arts Society V Santharam.

Other themes at the expo include motherhood, landscapes, birds, sunset, myths, Buddha, etc.

A few of them have also tried to bring a difference through their choice of medium. Many used dried leaves, copper, brass, puffy, sand and knife art other than acrylic. Besides this, the outbreak of Covid has also become a theme of the exhibition. The exhibition-cum-sale will end on July 15.
