Thetford: Arrest made after addresses linked to asylum seekers shared amid anti-migrant disorder

  • Norfolk Police have arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of inciting racial hatred and assisting an offender following anti-migrant unrest in Thetford.
  • The suspect was questioned over how addresses of properties housing asylum seekers were shared, before being released on bail until October 2026.
  • The arrests follow three nights of disorder where targeted Serco-managed homes were surrounded by crowds, forcing police to evacuate residents.
  • Tensions in the area escalated after the Home Office submitted plans to convert nearby RAF Barnham into accommodation for up to 1,250 asylum seekers.
  • South West Norfolk MP Terry Jermy condemned the terrifying scenes, which resulted in police officers being assaulted and several arrests.
