'There's no question': Proclaimers asked if they'd give up fame for independence

ONE of Scotland’s most famous bands have said they would give up all their fame and success if it meant their country could be independent.

Craig and Charlie Reid said there would not be “a glimmer of doubt” if they had the choice between self-determination for their nation or success for The Proclaimers.

Appearing on Pure Radio’s Robin Galloway Breakfast Show, the Yes brothers were asked: “Would you rather there hadn’t been any Proclaimers but Scotland had become an independent country?”

They both responded: “100% - Yes. There’s no question. Not even a glimmer of doubt.

“We’d give up everything for an independent Scotland. The band, the songs, the career, the success – everything.”

The Edinburgh brothers are well-known supporters of independence and have expressed their desire for a second referendum.

Host Galloway said: “Charlie and Craig have always been great supporters of my radio nonsense.

"I once convinced them to wind up Hearts - asking the commercial department to carry trackside advertising for their new album.

“Selflessly swapping Scottish Independence for their entire career, comes as no shock to me. These guys are as honest as the day is long.”

The I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) singers were speaking ahead of their upcoming album Dentures Out, which Craig and Charlie say is their most political yet.

While promoting the album last month, they told the BBC that the UK had nose-dived in the last 10 years, saying Brexit was proof.

The musician said Britain had been a “diminishing power” since the Second World War.
