"There's more to come for Starfield": Bethesda says the Terran Armada DLC and Free Lanes update aren't the end of the line for RPG

Bethesda has just announced that a suite of changes and improvements is coming to Starfield on April 7. Not only is the massive RPG finally coming to PS5, but Bethesda is working to feed big updates through core aspects of the underlying meta – introducing interplanetary travel within systems, more expressive exploration, and a wider focus on customization – through the Free Lanes update and the next premium story DLC, Terran Armada.

Given that Bethesda Game Studios is now hard at work on its next project, with executive producer Todd Howard telling GamesRadar+ during a recent studio visit that "the majority of this building is working on The Elder Scrolls 6", you may be wondering what the future of Starfield is beyond these incoming updates. Is this the end for Starfield?

Members of Bethesda's leadership tell us that Free Lanes and Terran Armada are by no means the final updates you should expect from Starfield. "I think there's a future for it," says lead creative producer Tim Lamb. "We have plans."

"I won't go into specifics, but when we launch a game, our plan is always long-term support," he continues. "To what level that happens, or the significance of that, how it manifests, is open to interpretation. But there's more to come for Starfield. I think there's things that still excite the team – there are still lore and places that we're excited to explore; those would be the things we'll be chasing after."

"We've talked about so many different versions of DLCs that we want to do, that address different parts of the game – the list is crazy," adds studio art director Istvan Pely.

As Lamb says though, how all of this passion and these ideas ultimately manifest remains an open question. "We intend to keep doing updates after [Free Lanes and Terran Armada]," Pely adds. "Whether or not they're small or massive or somewhere inbetween… we definitely plan to keep going. It's not like this is the end of Starfield."
