The search for the next James Bond officially kicks off with Game of Thrones casting director at the helm

Daniel Craig in No Time to Die.

We're one step closer to finding out who the next James Bond is.

The casting process has officially kicked off to find Daniel Craig's replacement, with Amazon MGM Studios auditioning actors over the past few weeks.

"The search for the next James Bond is underway," the studio said in a statement (via Variety). "While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right."

Casting director Nina Gold, who was responsible for casting Daisy Ridley as Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, is leading the search. She was nominated for the Oscar for Best Casting in the category's inaugural year for Hamnet, and she's also worked on Game of Thrones, The Crown, and Andor.

It's been half a decade since Craig's swan song as 007 in No Time to Die, but Amazon MGM Studios boss Courtenay Valenti has said they don't want to rush the process. "Please know that we’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect," she said at this year's CinemaCon. "It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly."

Dune helmer Denis Villeneuve will direct the next Bond movie, and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script. "I’m hoping that being a Bond fan for so many years, that will sort of be imbued into me and I’ll be able to produce something that’s the same but different and better and stronger and bolder," Knight said last year.
