The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 will cover several huge events in the canon, including focusing more on the "civil war brewing" in Numenor. As part of this storyline, the showrunners have confirmed that a major character will make an appearance: Elros.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Patrick McKay revealed that Elrond's brother Elros will appear in a flashback scene. He'll be played by Elrond star Robert Aramayo as well and it will reveal more about the founding of Numenor.
A half Elf, Elros was the first King of Numenor after choosing to live as a mortal after being given the choice by the Valor about which Kin he would rather belong to. He lived for 500 years, ruling Numenor for 410 of them, and founding the important Middle-earth kingdom.
Fun fact too, Elros' bloodline leads to Aragorn eventually, making him a hugely important part of the Lord of the Rings canon. The showrunners didn't reveal anything more about how Elros will be brought into the story, but Numenor's future is a hugely important storyline in the era that the Rings of Power is covering. We won't spoil anything here, but we expect it to play a big part in season 3 and the upcoming season 4 as well.
Aramayo's other role as Elrond will also be in a different place when the new season starts. He told Empire: "This season is an interesting one. Elrond's got his own little gaff now. He's got his own little place in Rivendell. I was really excited that the show was going to bring it in."
