The random household items that are worth a fortune - from cereal boxes to board games

If you’re living an Irish home, you probably have no idea what’s in the attic, from treasures to random household items that for some reason we hold on to.

Well, it’s time to go rummaging through all of those boxes to see if you can find a few gems worth a fortune.

There are many things online that collectors are after, from rare currency to vintage designer items and sports memorabilia.

But did you know there are also collectors of things that are much more random… and are probably in most homes nationwide?

From video and board games to cereal boxes and even pyrex dishes, here are some of the most random household items that could make you a pretty penny.

Games

Every home would have had a press, shelf, or box filled with board games for the holidays or just a Friday night in - and some vintage games are now worth a fortune.

The same goes for old video games, with an original copy of the Super Mario Bros recently selling in the US at auction for over €90,000.

There are an estimated 5,000 copies of the 1933 edition of Monopoly Atlantic City, and one went for a whopping €125,000.

The Atlantic City game is recognisable by its round shape.

Pyrex dishes

Every cook and baker on earth has at least one - if not many - Pyrex dishes.

Did you know that some of the older patterned glassware that our mothers and grandmothers would have used are now worth a pretty penny?

If you have one that has been passed down through generations, you should have it valued because some of the rare collections from back in the day are selling online for thousands.

Books

Everyone knows that it’s worth holding onto first edition books no matter what their genre.

At some point in time, they will be worth more than you paid to avid book collectors.

Nowadays, some printed books can even sell for anywhere between a few hundred to a few million dollars.

A signed copy is worth even more. You can use a rare book search engine to learn if you've unearthed something valuable.

Computers

Everyone remembers the old school block computers, which probably still gather dust somewhere if your parents owned one.

Well, those monstrous-looking pieces of equipment are now worth thousands online.

Apple 1s are especially prized by collectors across the globe with one even selling for as much as €400,000 in 2019.

Cereal Boxes

This seems incredibly random, but if you were a super eco-conscious family back in the day, you may have opted to use things like cardboard boxes to store things.

If some of them were cereal boxes, which would now be considered ‘vintage’ you could earn upwards of €1,000 online for them.

If you have a look around on eBay you’ll find a variety of brands' vintage boxes going for an outrageous amount.
