She’s the talk of, well, the country at the moment but even the Queen loves her down-time. Known to be a 'bingewatcher' when it comes to TV, Queen Elizabeth II has a large back catalogue of British shows to dive into when it comes to television.
From Doctor Who to Downton Abbey and Britain's Got Talent to Only Fools and Horse, Britain has gifted the world with more than its fair share of iconic television programmes. But which ones does the Queen cite as her 'favourites'?
As the monarch celebrates 70 years on the throne, we’re delving deeper into the telly that Her Maj loves to watch. Be warned, there are some shows on this list that will probably surprise you.

The Kumars at No 42
Yes, we’re astounded by this one too. The Queen, who apparently loves a “boxset binge”, told BBC Radio 2 in 2001 that her favourite show was The Kumars at No. 42. Unfortunately for her, the show has been off air since 2004.
The Bill
Another show of yesteryear, Lizzie has previously admitted to being obsessed with The Bill. Apparently though, she told a senior courtier once that she doesn’t like “those episodes where policemen get hurt”. And let’s face it, why would anyone like that? Good news for the Queen: a revival of the show is in the works that you can read about here.
Doctor Who
The royals have a bit of an affiliation with Doctor Who. The Queen, herself (well maybe not actually her), even made an appearance in the 2007 Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned. Despite starring in a David Tennant episode, Elizabeth II has reportedly said that her favourite incarnation of the Time Lord is Christopher Eccleston. We wonder what she’ll think of new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa?
Pointless
Following the news that Richard Osman is leaving Pointless, we’ve no doubt that the monarch is just as nervous as the next person to find out who will replace him on the BBC One quiz show. Main host, Alexander Armstrong, has gone on record to say that the Queen regularly enjoys watching the BBC hit. Maybe we’ll see her on the next series?
Downton Abbey
According to The Telegraph, Queen Elizabeth II is a big fan of Downton Abbey and would regularly “point out things they have got wrong” as she is very familiar with Highclere Castle, where the hit show is filmed. With the movie sequel released this year, we reckon she has probably caught up with the series.
Midsomer Murders
The monarch apparently never misses an episode of Midsomer Murders. The show, which has been running for over 20 years, featured John Nettles in the lead role before Neil Dudgeon took the reins in 2011.
