The Prince and Princess of Wales get colour coordinated for the 2026 BAFTAs

The 2026 BAFTAs are here, giving the British public the chance to feast their eyes on all the red carpet royalty and, yes, some actual royalty!

Having acted as President of BAFTA since 2010, Prince William is a reliable feature of the awards ceremony, cropping up every year to mingle with the best actors on the planet.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales is back on his arm after a few years of sitting out the event, and this year the royal couple treated us to some extra special red carpet action: colour coordinated outfits.

Kate arrived wearing a bespoke pleated gown by Gucci in multiple shades of pink, with a burgundy velvet band around the waist and a matching Prada burgundy velvet clutch. Meanwhile William wore a velvet tuxedo jacket by Giorgio Armani in the exact same shade as his wife’s belt and bag.

It’s an unusually colour coordinated move from the couple, who don’t tend to sport twinning colours — largely because Prince William is nearly always wearing black, grey or navy, while the Princess of Wales tends to wear more saturated colours.

For accessories, Kate also sported a pair of Greville Chandellier earrings, as well as Queen Mary's art deco choker bracelet and Oscar de la Renta pumps.

This is the first time the Princess of Wales has attended the BAFTAs since 2023. She was absent in 2024 due to her cancer treatment and also absent from the 2025 edition of the event. Prince William attended alone on these occasions.

For the 2023 BAFTAs, Kate wore a reworked version of the white Alexander McQueen gown she first wore to the event in 2019. The look featured off-shoulder pleating, and was paired with long black opera gloves and gold jewellery.

The couple tend to sit front row at the event, and often engage in a few behind-the-scenes chats with the nominees for the BAFTA Rising Star Award. This year, those nominees are Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Miles Caton (Sinners), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Archie Madekwe (Lurker) and Posy Sterling (Lollipop). Aramayo is also nominated in the Best Actor category, making him a favourite to win the prestigious newcomer award.
