Newcastle United are yet to strike a deal for Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak after being quoted an inflated price for the Sweden international.
The La Liga club have not denied discussions for Isak with a £50million fee mooted for the 22-year-old. And the Anoeta Stadium side have responded to Chronicle Live when asked about Newcastle's interest.
A communications official told us: "The only thing we have to say is that he will be back for training on Thursday." United have made over a dozen enquiries on forward players in recent times with sporting director Dan Ashworth stepping up United's chase for a goalscorer.
Much has been made of the "Newcastle tax" this summer with rival clubs around Europe trying to cash in on the club's new ownership. Big fees for Moussa Diaby at Bayer Leverkusen resulted in Newcastle's attempts to sign the French international being delayed.
And it was a hefty agent fee for Hugo Ekitike of Reims that delayed the deal with "astronomical" figures quoted to the Magpies last month. The Isak deal is typical of the summer so far with one La Liga source claiming his price tag should be closer to £30million.
