The odds of winning National Lottery and Euromillions jackpots and cash prizes

Winning the lottery, it could be you.

In reality, the odds of clinching a top prize in either the Lotto or the Euromillions jackpots are very, very long. But the chances of winning a smaller prize, as you'd expect, are not that daunting.

To win any money in the National Lottery, you have to match at least three numbers. The chances of doing that are one in 97. To win the jackpot, you must match six numbers, at odds longer than one in 45 million.

The Euromillions offers an even bigger jackpot. The record UK win was £195,707,000 in July 2022. But to win the Euromillions, which requires five correct numbers and two stars, you face very very long odds, almost one in 140 million.

What are the odds of winning the National Lottery?

To win a National Lottery Jackpot, you need to match six correct numbers. According to Lottery.co.uk, the odds are one in 45,057,474.

Matching five members and a bonus ball can secure you £1 million. The odds of that are one in 7,509,579.

Lottery players who match five numbers win £1,750, at odds of one in 144,415.

Guess four numbers correct and you win £140, the odds of doing that are one in 2,180.

Finally, those who guess three numbers correctly win £30, at odds of one in 97.

The odds of winning the Euromillions

Euromillions jackpot prizes are huge. But when you see the odds, you may realise why.

To secure the top jackpot, players must match five numbers and two stars. The odds of that are one in 139,838,160, Lottery.co.uk, states.

Guessing five numbers and one Lucky Star wins £268,967.37. The chances of that are one in 6,991,908.

Correctly picking 5 numbers wins £29,471.46, at odds of one in 3,107,515.

To win £1,664.96, players must get four numbers and two Lucky Stars. The chances of that happening are one in 621,503.

Four numbers and one Lucky Star\u0009wins £97.58. The chances are one in 31,075.

Three numbers and two Lucky Stars gets £56.74. The odds of that are one in 14,125

Four numbers win £33.25 at odds of one in 13,811.

Players who guess two numbers and two Lucky Stars win £11.30 at odds of one in 985.

Three numbers and one Lucky Star wins £8.53, at odds of one in 706.

Correctly guessing three numbers results in a £7.08 prize, at odds of one in 314.

One number and two Lucky Stars wins players £5.77, at odds of one in 188.

Those who guess two numbers and one Lucky Star win £4.48, at odds of one in 49.

Finally, those who correctly guess two numbers win £2,71. The odds of that are one in 22.
