Considering London’s greatest “classic” restaurants prompted another question: where, one day, might end up joining their ranks as an “institution”?
It is a tricky thing to know; if I could read the future I’d have the Euromillions in my account by now. Not every great restaurant survives, and some are so intrinsically tied to their owners that should the owner retire, the restaurant must close. The idea was also to consider “new” restaurants, an imprecise measure; it means that places that aren’t of the last few years but aren’t ancient either missed the cut, like Bocca di Lupo, Casse-Croûte, 40 Dean Street, Sabor, One Lombard Street, (the revived) Quality Chop House and Otto’s. All are wonderful restaurant, and I encourage you to visit them.
