More Than 37,000 Squishy Toys Recalled as Water Beads Inside Can Swell in a Child and Evade X-Rays

Two California importers are recalling about 37,480 squishy toys filled with water beads that can expand inside a child's body and block the intestines. The recalls, announced on Oct. 1, 2026, in a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice for ABC Trading and a second notice, cover toys that violate a federal safety standard written specifically for water beads.

The larger recall involves about 37,000 Squishy Dumpling and Crazy Squib Ball toys from ABC Trading Inc. of Vernon, California. They sold for 41 cents to $1.25 at ABC Trading stores in Los Angeles and other stores nationwide from April through June 2026. No injuries have been reported.
