We don't know about you but we still can't get enough of a staycation. What started as a necessity during the pandemic, has blossomed into a lifelong mission to see more of what Scotland has to offer.
I'm sure we're not the only ones who are enjoying spending more time exploring a city or relaxing in a remote spot somewhere in this beautiful country of ours.
For our latest jaunt, we tried out the newly opened Mar Huts, nestled peacefully at the front of Conic Hill on the West Highland Way. The bespoke Shepherd Huts were created by hosts Gordon Campbell and Michael Connors who wanted to let others share in their idyllic home location.
We checked in for the day following a walk up Conic Hill - just one of many possible walking destinations close to The Huts. The route was a bit busier than anticipated due to it being a Saturday but seeing the views at the top - and some adorable Highland cows en route - made it all worthwhile.
Checking into our hut couldn't have been easier and was made all the better by the treats waiting for us inside. As well as fresh eggs and clean robes and slippers, there were also two bottles of prosecco to enjoy during the evening.
Not wanting to jump into the hot tub too early, we enjoyed a bit of time on the outdoor seating overlooking the peaceful river in front of the hut before heading back into Balmaha (just a few minutes' drive away) for some dinner. The Huts come equipped with a fridge/freezer and an induction hob but we opted to eat out to save ourselves the small effort of planning ahead and cooking.
As the sun started setting we got straight in the hot tub with a glass of prosecco. The tub, lit by fairy lights, overlooks the river making for the perfect chill-out spot. Although there is a second hut nearby, it felt as though we were completely alone.
Once we were suitably pruned, we headed in for the night to cool down on the generously sized double bed to catch up on some Netflix. With just the sound of the river outside, we had a gloriously peaceful night's sleep before heading back down the road the following morning.
Our night at The Mar Huts couldn't have been more perfect. With easy parking, great amenities and so much to do nearby, it's the ideal staycation and is less than an hour from Glasgow.
