As more and more people begin to use online banking services and choose to shop online rather than venture to their local high street we're seeing more and more banks close up and down the UK. Which? estimates that between 2015 and the end of 2024 we will have seen 5,695 UK branches of banks and building societies shut permanently though the circumstances and reasons for individual banks' closures obviously differ.
HSBC says it will close 114 banks in the UK – around a quarter of its total sites – this year whilst Barclays is set to shut 142 sites across this year and next, as reported by the Mirror.
