The First Descendant 2026 roadmap: Onslaught, Ultimate Esiemo, farming overhaul, and more

The First Descendant has been struggling to shape a core gameplay loop for the past year, which is why 2026 will be an important year for the game when developers overhaul multiple systems to streamline the game, add more variety, and introduce more endgame content.

Here’s everything you can expect to see in The First Descendant throughout the first half of 2026 as revealed during the developer livestream on Dec. 2.

The first half of 2026 is focused on reorganizing the game’s core loop, including player motivation, farming, and buildcrafting, to then ultimately challenge endgame content. To fulfill this goal, the roadmap outlines multiple overhauls, new ways to farm Gold, and a new endgame mode.

Season 3 Episode 2 (January 2026)

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant in January 2026:

  • Breach Tracking Field
  • Enzo’s monthly balance
  • Weapon improvements

Season 3 Episode 2 added a new Breach Tracking Field activity/content designed to farm Gold alongside other materials, such as Superconductive Cooling Units, used to readjust Ancestor Modules. It randomly selects from one of the old fields (White-night Gulch, Vespers, or Fortress), making it less repetitive.

There was also the monthly balancing update for Enzo, which followed a similar format to Hailey’s and Ajax’s reworks, but with fewer net benefits, despite the goal being to make him a strong firearm damage dealer.

Season 3 Episode 3 (February 2026)

Episode 3 comes in three monthly updates, featuring new content and balancing adjustments. Below, you can find all the content coming in each monthly update, according to the official The First Descendant roadmap.

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant on Feb. 5, 2026:

  • New Descendant: Dia
  • Underwater Base dungeon
  • Unveiled Truth story
  • Gley’s monthly balance
  • HQ Standing and Special Orders
  • Second boost path

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant on Mar. 12, 2026:

  • Legion Lab dugneon
  • Keelan Transcendent Module
  • Sharen’s monthly balance
  • Stat display improvements
  • Mission board

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant on Apr. 16, 2026:

  • Onslaught mode (Beta)
  • Ines Transcendent Module
  • Viessa’s monthly balance
  • Mutant Cell improvements

On top of everything on the list, you can expect new Ultimate weapons, rotating Abyss bosses, weapon balancing changes, new Modules, External Components, events, and skins with each update.

One of the core new additions in Season 3 Episode 3 is the new endgame mode, Onslaught. In Onslaught, you will face progressively stronger enemies across multiple difficulty tiers. Throughout the run, you can use accumulated resources to deploy turrets or buffs, which sounds fairly similar to Onslaught from Destiny 2. With the launch of Episode 3, Onslaught will be in the Beta state, allowing for further refinements and updates before the official release in Episode 4.

Throughout the first half of 2026, the developer slows down the release cadence of new Descendants, including Ultimate characters. Dia is the only long-awaited addition to the roster in Episode 3, releasing with the February update.

The rest of the Episode is dedicated to improving existing characters, like Gley, Sharen, and Viessa. After that, the next Ultimate characters you can expect are Ultimate Esiemo in Episode 4 and Ultimate Hailey in Season 4.

Season 3 Episode 4 (May 2026)

The last Episode of Season 3 features changes to multiple core loops, including farming and Void Intercept Battles. Much like previous Episodes, Episode 4 is split into three monthly updates, running from May to July.

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant on May 21, 2026:

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant on June 18, 2026:

  • Onslaught updates
  • Axium Infiltration: Bastion of Immortality
  • Bunny’s monthly balance
  • New collaboration

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant on July 15, 2026:

  • Void Intercept Battle Extreme Mode (Beta)
  • Onslaught updates
  • Serena Transcendent Modules
  • Blair’s monthly balance

Void Intercept Battles on Hard difficulty will undergo an overhaul, as right now their only purpose is to farm External Components and occasionally Transcendent Modules. There will also be new endgame Void Intercept Battle content featuring multiple difficulty tiers.

For Descendant balance adjustments and reworks, the developer revealed Valby, Bunny, and Blair. Among weapons, changes are coming to Voltia, Enduring Legacy, ERASER, Albion Cavalry Gun, Divine Punishment, and The Final Masterpiece.

This comes on top of new Ultimate weapons and a series of quality-of-life updates throughout the roadmap.

Season 4 Episode 1 (Summer 2026)

While it may be too early to discuss Season 4, we know it features the final battle with Karel, taking place in the mega dungeon, with larger-scale combat and visuals. After the story with Karel concludes, a new arc will begin.

Here’s everything coming to The First Descendant in Summer 2026:

  • Karel’s Final Battle mega dungeon
  • New dungeon system
  • Transcendent weapons
  • Raven
  • Ultimate Hailey
  • Main story overhaul

Nexon has already teased Raven, a new female Descendant with a darker and more strict look. By Season 4, the weapon system will also be revamped. New Transcendent weapons will offer different progression methods compared to the existing Ultimate weapons.
