A Democratic candidate for Fort Bend Precinct 3 Commissioner in Texas, Taral Patel, has been arrested on charges of Online Impersonation and Misrepresentation of Identity. The arrest was made by Texas Rangers following allegations that Patel sent himself racist and derogatory messages on social media, posing as a supporter of the incumbent Republican Commissioner Andy Meyers.
The investigation into Patel's actions began in October 2023 after Meyers raised concerns about vitriolic comments directed at Patel. It was discovered that Patel had posted a collage of hateful messages, attributing them to Meyers' supporters, in an attempt to highlight what he described as a 'deep and misguided fear' within the Republican Party.
Authorities revealed that Patel used an image of a real Fort Bend resident as his profile picture without the individual's consent. Fort Bend County Republican Party Chairman Bobby Eberle expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasizing that such deceptive tactics have no place in politics, regardless of party affiliation.
