Conditions will settle down for some time today following a wet and windy week, but it’s not going to last for long.
Weather warnings have been stood down for Friday after strong gusts whipped through the country on Wednesday and Thursday.
January 13 will start off with scattered showers and some wind, but this will ease by the afternoon, Met Eireann said.

During this time, it will become “largely dry and sunny for a time”. The national forecaster said: “Fresh and gusty westerly winds will also ease for a time in the afternoon.”
However, by the late afternoon and into the evening, more unsettled conditions will return, with showers and fresh winds to pick up once again.
The highest temperatures today will remain between six and nine degrees.
Tonight, rain will fall throughout most of the country and will be heavy in parts. “A clearance to scattered showers will follow in from the west later as the rain clears eastwards by morning,” Met Eireann’s forecast for Friday said.
It will become colder overnight though, as temperatures will fall between one and four degrees. The wind will ease, with “moderate to fresh” gusts.
For the weekend, it looks set to remain quite cold and this will keep up until early next week.
On Saturday, January 14, there is a chance of hail and isolated thunderstorms, particularly near the Atlantic coasts. “Wintry falls” are also possible on high ground.
Wind chill factor will make it feel colder than the real temperature, which will be between four and seven degrees. It will fall into the minus’ throughout each night until Tuesday.
Met Eireann have said that milder conditions will return next week.
