A homeowner has been charged after following two teens who allegedly tried to set fire to his house in a 10km car chase before wounding one of the duo.
The events unfolded across three western Sydney suburbs beginning on Sunday night, when emergency services were called to a home in Concord West after reports of a car fire.
A Nissan X-trail SUV was found alight in the driveway of a Mackenzie Street home before firefighters put out the blaze.
In what police believe was a related incident, two people later allegedly tried to set fire to a house on Northcott Road in Lalor Park.
The homeowner, a 43-year-old man, saw a Toyota Prado drive off but he chased the vehicle to Rawson Road in South Wentworthville - nearly 10km away - before an altercation with the two occupants.
Police arrived at the scene just after midnight on Monday to find two vehicles crashed into each other and the man allegedly armed with a knife.
An 18-year-old man was found with lacerations to his hands and face, while a 17-year-old boy was uninjured.The 43-year-old man also had superficial lacerations to his shoulder and leg after reportedly being struck with a machete.
He was arrested and charged with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while the 17-year-old was charged with attempting arson and reckless wounding.
Both were refused bail to appear in court on Monday.
The older teen was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he was in a serious but stable condition.
