Teenager unhurt after attempted abduction

Victorian police are looking for a man involved in the attempted abduction of a teenage girl. (HANDOUT/POLICE MEDIA)

The hunt is on for a man wanted over the attempted abduction of a 16-year-old girl in inner Melbourne.

The incident occurred as the girl was walking in St Kilda East just before 6pm on Wednesday.

The man approached her on the corner of Hotham Street and Denman Avenue and repeatedly asked her if she wanted to go somewhere with him.

He then grabbed her by the arm and tried to force her into a white sedan, police say.

The girl managed to free herself and ran away without injury.

Police have released a computer-generated image of a man they say may be able to assist with enquiries.

He's described as about 179 cm tall, aged in his 20s to early 30s and has short black hair.

He was wearing a navy blue t-shirt with a white puma logo and black pants.

Anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV or information about what happened has been urged to come forward.
