TalkTalk internet goes down as hundreds of customers report issues

Broadband supplier TalkTalk has gone down, leaving some customers with no internet.

TalkTalk has over 4m home broadband customers and hundreds have reported having issues getting online this morning.

More than 300 customers reported the problem on online status monitor Downdetector earlier today and there are still reports of issues, although TalkTalk told The Sun that service had been restored for all customers. A higher number than usual were still reporting problems with their broadband at home to Downdetector early this afternoon.

Nine per cent of UK households use TalkTalk to supply their broadband, making the company the country's fourth biggest broadband provider, behind BT (25%), Sky (22%) and Virgin Media (17%), according to 2022 figures.

A TalkTalk spokesperson said: “A brief outage on a third-party fibre network caused a loss of service of four minutes for a small number of customers this morning. Service was restored for all customers.”

In March, TalkTalk customers reported problems sending and receiving emails, which prompted account holders to vent their frustration on social media. The company admitted there was an issue and apologised for the inconvenience.

If you are a TalkTalk customer, you can check the status of your broadband by logging into your account, where the provider can run tests to see if the service in your area is down. You can also contact TalkTalk directly on its helpline on 0345 172 0088 to check what has happened.

You will only be able to to get compensation for today's outage if it carries on past the weekend, as internet firms usually pay out £8 for each full day that broadband or phone services are not repaired after two full days of no service.
