Talking Point: Is Heathrow the most stressful airport in Europe?

Passengers queue in Heathrow terminal 2

Heathrow Airport has won the unenviable acclaim of being named as the most stressful airport in Europe after researchers examined more than 10,000 online reviews from passengers, 2,500 tweets and hours of flight data to come up with their conclusion. The major London travel hub was followed closely by Dublin Airport in second place, and Manchester’s airport in third.

It comes as Easter travellers at the west London airport have faced chaos in recent weeks following complaints of long queues due to staff shortages.

Holidaymakers have reported huge delays at check-ins, believed to be caused by problems recruiting workers as well as Covid absences.

The airport recorded its busiest month since the start of the pandemic with 4.2 million passengers in March.

Heathrow admitted “resources are stretched” but the airport spokesperson described how it is “working closely with airlines and ground handlers to make sure this increase in demand can be met while keeping passengers safe”.

London’s second largest airport, Gatwick, didn’t fare much better in the analysis either, with the researchers at Digital PR Hub @ Legacy Communications finding that it was the seventh most stressful airport in Europe – and ranked third in terms of flight delays.
