A "sweet and affectionate" dog is looking for a loving new home this Valentine's Day after nearly a year with a Merseyside animal rescue charity.
Staff have have "had their hearts melted" by six-year-old Angel's "caring ways" in her time at Dogs Trust Merseyside, based on Whiston Lane in Huyton. But the American Bulldog is desperate for "a special someone" to "sweep her off her paws and give her a forever home" after more than 300 days in the rehoming centre.
Georgina Lowery, manager of the centre, hopes Angel will get the love and care that she deserves for Valentine's Day, the annual celebration of love. She described it as the perfect present for Angel, who turns seven just two days later.

She said: "Angel is such a loving pooch. She's a big dog with a big heart and is looking for friendly new owners who can take the time to show her how good life can be. She always enjoys her favourite people giving her a belly rub, loves a snuggle and likes casual walks where she can stroll in peace at her own pace.
"The best way to her heart is definitely through tasty treats. She only has eyes for her licky mat when we bring it out. She will be celebrating her seventh birthday on February 16, so getting a new owner would also be the perfect present for her."
You'll need to visit Angel multiple times to get her used to new people before taking her home, where she'll need to be the only pet. She can live with kids aged 14 or older who are comfortable around large dogs. That way she can "lap up all the love" and "chill out on her own when she chooses", according to Dogs Trust.
Angel is housetrained and can potentially be left for short periods of time once settled. Dogs Trust, the largest dog welfare charity, can discuss her medical history with owners at the centre. Georgina said: "Angel has a sensitive side so her new owners will need to spare the time and patience needed to build a special bond with this sweet girl.
"Once she gets to know you, she’ll be your canine companion for life and will willingly show you her silly side. We’re all hoping she won’t be unlucky in love this Valentine’s Day and that she’ll find her perfect match very soon."
