van Hooijdonk links played down
Swansea City insiders have played down reports of a possible loan move for striker Sydney van Hooijdonk this month.
According to The Sun, the Swans are one of several Championship sides keen on the Dutchman, but face competition from Stoke City, Millwall and local rivals Cardiff City.

A new striker seems likely to be on the agenda given the potential departures of Morgan Whittaker and Michael Obafemi, but sources have poured cold water on suggestions of a possible move for van Hooijdonk, who's the son of former Nottingham Forest forward Pierre.
The 22-year-old is currently contracted to Serie A side Bologna, but has been on loan at Eredivisie side Heerenveen, where he's netted seven goals in 18 appearances this season.
And reports claim van Hooijdonk is keen on testing himself on these shores, and could be made available for another loan move before the end of the January window.
Schumacher feels sorry for Whittaker
Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher says he feels sorry for Morgan Whittaker amid trying circumstances he is currently experiencing.
Whittaker was recalled from a fruitful loan spell with the Pilgrims earlier on this month, leaving both player and boss frustrated. The striker has since been linked with a move to Rangers, with the Scottish giants having their bids rejected by Swansea thus far.
The 22-year-old was left out of Swansea's squad at the weekend, with head coach Russell Martin revealing he wasn't in the right frame of mind to travel to west London.
Schumacher has now had his say on the saga.
"I feel sorry for Morgan," he told our colleagues at PlymouthLive. "He was really enjoying himself, looked at home here, found a home here. He was enjoying playing in the team, he was a huge part of it.
"He has gone back there, everything is sort of up in the air and I feel a bit sorry for him but as a professional footballer these things are sometimes out of your control. As regards to all the other stuff it's none of my business."
Schumacher added: "It's not ideal, but it will all work out in the end. Whatever happens, good things happen to good people and Morgan was a diamond to have so he will be fine I'm sure."
Burnley closing in on Obafemi alternative
Burnley are reportedly closing in on striker Lyle Foster in a move that could well have significant repercussions in their pursuit of Swansea City's Michael Obafemi in this window.
Our colleagues at LancashireLIve claim a striker has long been the priority for the Clarets, with the club locked in talks over a move for Foster, who's currently plying his trade at Belgian side Westerlo.
Kompany was believed to be in the stands to watch the South African, who has eight goals to his name this season, in action last Monday.
Should they complete a move for the 23-year-old, it will certainly spark questions over the future of Ireland international Obafemi, who was previously expected to depart in this window amid intense interest from the Turf Moor outfit.
Swansea have already rejected two bids from the Clarets this month, and may well feel a sale is needed to give their own window a jolt in the arm.
However, it seems Burnley's interest has now cooled.
