Swansea City striker set for loan exit as futures of several others still undecided

Morgan Whittaker is set to join Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan deal from Swansea City.

The attacker was unable to nail down a regular place in Russell Martin's squad last term and spent the latter half of the 2020/21 campaign with Lincoln City. And he is now set to develop further elsewhere by moving to Home Park for a year.

Whittaker was with Swansea for their pre-season clash against the Pilgrims last week but did not feature in the contest. He held talks with Steven Schumacher's side and also had discussions with another League One side.

But it's understood the Swans felt Plymouth were a better fit for Whittaker's development given their style of play. Speaking about Whittaker after the 1-1 draw in Devon earlier this month, head coach Martin said: "Morgan wasn't involved tonight because he's discussing a loan move as it stands.

"It might not be the right one for us or for him, so we'll see where that comes to."

However, it's understood the deal is now on the brink of completion, paving the way for Whittaker to hit the ground running in the south west of England. Swansea remain eager to offload other players, and the club's ownership group are keen for the squad to be trimmed before sanctioning further deals following the arrivals of Nathan Wood, Matty Sorinola, Harry Darling and Joe Allen.

Jordon Garrick, Kyle Joseph and Brandon Cooper have all attracted loan interest from clubs in League One while Liam Cullen, Steven Benda and Ryan Bennett remain in the frame to leave the club either temporarily or permanently this summer.
