Surprising Cod’s Scallops battered Cadbury’s Creme Egg Easter treat 'a whole new level'

Hasn’t Easter come around quickly? There’s more tempting chocolates on supermarket shelves and we aren’t complaining! One chippy however has taken one tasty Easter treat to a whole new level as community reporter Keimae Blake reports…

Now, I’m sure this won’t surprise you but I love an Easter egg! The smell of Cadbury’s Mini Eggs when you open the pack never gets old and some sickly sweet chocolate is just what you need sometimes after a long day.

Popular Nottingham chip shop, The Cod’s Scallops is doing something that at first I wasn’t sure about. A deep-fried Creme Egg?

Surely not, it’s going to taste awful, I thought. I was, however, wrong.

Cadbury’s Creme Eggs, they’re a bit like marmite (not the taste, obviously) some people love them, some people hate the gooey middle inside. To settle my doubts I went to the Cod’s Scallops shop on Wilford Lane, West Bridgford to see what they taste like.

Cod’s Scallops, which also has branches in Wollaton and Carrington, is an award-winning chippy and whether or not you like their deep-fried Creme Egg or not I’m sure there’s something on their menu you can dig into.

.On arrival at the West Bridgford shop one afternoon, people were tucking into their lunch, happily.

With a cosy interior, you can have award-winning food sitting down in a comfy seat or of course, have a takeaway. The West Bridgford shop is nearly a year old and is located inside the £20m Wilford Lane retail park.

I had had a rainbow sushi salad for my lunch but the smell of fish and chips was rather tempting. This Easter isn't the first Cod Scallop's has been serving this treat up, it's popped up around Easter time for a few years now.

Being taken into the kitchen to see the deep-fried creme egg being made, Nick Clewley, operations manager at the shop said: “These are a really nice sweet treat, they do work.

“They sound a bit random but if you like sweet things, you’ll enjoy this. People buy more than one in the limited run they do so they do work!”

That’s promising. Watching the Creme Egg so from its usual state to deep-fried, I was intrigued on how it would taste.

How the deep-fried Creme Egg is served up (Nottingham Post)

Taking my first bite into the now golden, battered chocolate treat, the crunch was evident with smooth warm chocolate on the inside. The goo in the middle was nice and warm too.

The batter acted as a surprisingly perfect coating to a treat you wouldn’t expect to have battered. Crispy, crunchy and chocolatey this Creme Egg delight is sold for £2.50 by itself or £5 with a scoop of ice cream.

This Easter treat is definitely one to try.
