Sunderland make three changes at West Brom as Luke O'Nien and Joe Gelhardt both start

Tony Mowbray made three changes at West Brom to the Sunderland side that started the midweek draw against Huddersfield Town - but Luke O'Nien and Joe Gelhardt were available to start. Dennis Cirkin returned from suspension and he came into defence in place of Danny Batth, who limped off late in the game on Tuesday night with a knee problem that will rule him out for the rest of the run-in.

Pierre Ekwah started in midfield in place of Patrick Roberts, while Abdoullah Ba came in for Alex Pritchard. Mowbray included both Roberts and Pritchard were included on the bench, along with French midfielder Edouard Michut who returned to the squad after missing the Huddersfield game with a back problem.

On-loan Leeds United striker Gelhardt had been an injury doubt going into the game with an ankle problem, but he was able to play. And O'Nien was also in the starting XI despite there having been a question-mark over his involvement during the run-up to the game with his wife due to give birth at any moment, and he was expected to play in the middle of a back three with Trai Hume and Cirkin either side of him.
