Sugar Prices Settle Mixed on Signs of a Larger Global Sugar Deficit

March NY world sugar #11 (SBH27) closed down -0.05 (-0.24%) on Tuesday, and December London ICE white sugar #5 (SWZ26) closed up +0.30 (+0.05%).

Sugar prices recovered from 1-week lows on Tuesday and settled mixed. Short covering emerged in sugar futures on Tuesday after Green Pool Commodity Specialists raised their 2026/27 global sugar deficit estimate to a 4-year high of -6.3 MMT, up from -3.2 MMT, citing the impact of El Niño on Brazil’s harvest and the weak monsoon season in India.
