Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment shared that the sequel is planned to be in early access for two to three years.
This comes as the studio just recently shared the announcement trailer for the sequel. This comes a year after it was first revealed. The first trailer for Subnautica 2 was revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview alongside other titles.
Subnautica 2 Announcement Trailer
These were Bloober Team's Cronos: The New Dawn as well as Remedy Entertainment's Firebreak. The Subnautica 2 trailer gave players a new look at the game's underwater world as well as the confirmation that early access will start sometime next year.
The footage started out by showing a young explorer who can be seen collecting data underwater.
While everything seems peaceful, the rock that he is studying suddenly stands up as it was actually a giant crab. This knocks the explorer down into a black abyss, according to PCGamer.
After the individual blacks out, he later wakes up and discovers that his oxygen supply is now dangerously low. But before things get too rough for the explorer, another person appears inside a seamoth to save him.
Some players are now asking whether the two researchers helping each other means that Subnautica 2 will have co-op functionality.
Fortunately, this is something that was actually confirmed during an earnings release earlier this year. The game will allow up to four players to work together.
Following the new trailer for Subnautica 2 dropping online, the store pages for the sequel have gone live on various platforms, including Steam. The developer said that it was difficult to accurately assess just how long the game's early access will last, Rock Paper Shotgun said.
Early Access Period
Unknown Worlds Entertainment also said that the early access for Subnautica 2 will have several biomes, some narrative, and will feature a variety of features and craftables.
The studio said that they will have more biomes, creatures, and other content throughout the early access.
They noted that the game's early access period will not be perfect but they still invite players to develop the game alongside them. The studio said that they will share their thoughts as well as their inevitable mistakes.
The sequel will have players journeying to an all-new ocean world that will have towering underwater cliffs and lush coral fields. Every single biome in Subnautica 2 will feature its own diverse ecosystem and unique creatures.
In Subnautica 2, you will be able to scan various creatures to learn more about them and use the Biosampler to collect samples you can study. You will also be able to evolve your own genetics to better your chances of survival, according to WCCFTech.
