Strictly's Jayde Adams jokes that Meghan Markle 'plagiarised' her look on magazine cover

Bristol Strictly Come Dancing star Jayde Adams has joked that Meghan Markle copied her own look on a recent magazine cover. The Duchess of Sussex was pictured on the cover of The Cut wearing a black turtle neck jumper.

The controversial wife of Prince Harry gave an interview to the fashion magazine during which she and her husband upset "the dynamic of hierarchy" of the royal family "just by existing". She also spoke about how the Duke of Sussex told her he had "lost his father" the Prince of Wales following a high-profile privacy case against the Mail on Sunday.

However, the cover picture of Meghan appears to have caught the attention of Adams, who was born in Bedminster, while she continues her preparations for the 20th series of Strictly. The 37-year-old, whose other TV credits include appearances on Russell Howard's A Gert Lush Christmas, Good Omens and 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, posted a message on her Instagram account poking fun at the cover and how Meghan had stolen her look.

Her post include a split picture of a promo image from Adams' Amazon Prime special Serious Black Jumper, which showed her in a moody pose. She put that next to the magazine cover featuring the Duchess and said people in showbusiness were "copying" her.

Adams posted: "At this point I think it’s the whole of LA. If you are new to my social media, BASICALLY I have prreeeetttty conclusive evidence that the whole of showbizness is copying me.

"In 2020 I released Serious Black Jumper on Amazon Prime, I have no idea the number of people who watched it cause they keep that on the downlow but 156million people have watched a clip from it. Let’s not get political under here about your feelings for someone you’ve not met, but let’s definitely smell a plagiarising rat here.

"For the proof you desire that the entirety of showbizness is on the plage go to#K4kopied #Kopied."

In a response to her own post, Adams later wrote: "Seriously. Only posted this to mention my Amazon Prime Special in a way which wasn’t “watch my prime special”."

Dozens of Adams' followers on Instagram responded to the post, with one saying: "You crack me up! Cannot wait to see you on Strictly."

Another person wrote: "You are the Godmother of the Serious Black Jumper. We will NEVER forget this and will NEVER let anyone else forget."

The 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing is due to begin on September 17 on BBC One. Other contestants going up against Adams include Paralympic swimming champion Ellie Simmonds, EastEnders actor James Bye and former Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton.
