After previously remaining tight-lipped, Stormzy has opened up about his split from Maya Jama for the second time in a few weeks. The Vossi Bop rapper, who split from Bristolian Love Island presenter Maya in 2019 after four years of dating, has revealed that he made the decision to change who he was as a person after the break up, which made him realise he 'was a boy'.
The revelation comes after the former flames have been spotted at a number of the same events in the last few weeks, including the 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' premiere, the MTV Europe Music Awards, and a Kendrick Lamar concert. Whilst Maya has not divulged any details of their split three years ago, Stormzy has now shed some light on the situation.
Following their decision to part ways, rumours were in circulation that Stormzy had not been loyal to Maya - a theory he denied. However, the musician has now said he had to 'change his character' after becoming single again due to 'devastating a world that he was living in'.

Stormzy told GQ: "I'd never experienced a break-up and the feelings that come with a break-up. It showed me that I was a boy.
"And I do not want to go any further as a boy. I don't want to be like that."
He added: "That means growth, accountability, changing my character, changing my routines, my habits, my tradition, my values, my morals. Because how I feel right now and how I've made someone else feel and how I've devastated a world that I was living in - I never want to be in this position again. Everything I'd achieved for myself did nothing for how I was feeling in real time."
Stormzy's candid reflection on his past behaviour comes after his chat with Louis Theroux for the journalist's series, 'Louis Theroux Interviews...'. During the interview, the rapper said that his split from Maya was 'like actual death'. Just last week, the former couple were spotted in the VIP section at a Kendrick Lamar concert in London, where they stood next to each other and hugged.
Days later, Stormzy released 'Firebabe', which many fans believe is about Maya, due to the lyrics and her star sign. Maya was born on August 14, 1994, making her a Leo, which is a fire sign.
