Wales is set to be battered by high winds and heavy rain as the Met Office warns that March is going "out like a lion". The French equivalent of the Met Office has named the area of low pressure Storm Mathis.
Sharing an image of the approaching storm, the UK Met Office says: "This deep area of low pressure will bring a spell of wet and windy weather to England and Wales overnight into Friday."
They say the greatest impacts will be felt in France, but there could be winds of 70mph in parts of the UK and heavy rain.
A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued for parts of south Wales 9pm on Thursday until midday on Friday (March 31)
it says: "A deep area of low pressure is expected to move eastwards across southern Britain during Thursday evening and Friday morning, bringing spells of strong southerly winds, then a lull, followed by strong west or northwesterly winds."
There is some uncertainty over the track and depth of the low and this affects how strong the wind will be.
The warning added: "It is likely that coastal areas will see 50-60 mph gusts, with a low probability of 70 mph over exposed hills and headlands with winds probably peaking after they veer west or northwesterly. This could lead to some disruption in places. Along with the strong winds, we will also see heavy rain overnight clearing as the low progresses eastwards."
The general weather for Wales says that Friday will be a rather cloudy day with outbreaks of rain, some of which will be heavy, especially during the afternoon. Windy initially but easing during the day.
The outlook for Saturday to Monday says: "Remaining cloudy on Saturday with further rain at times. Turning drier and brighter on Sunday leading to a cool start on Monday. After a bright day rain returns later Monday."
