A man was allegedly clocked speeding along the Hunter Expressway in a stolen vehicle at 178kmh before crashing during a pursuit and fleeing into bushland.
Highway patrol officers were conducting speed enforcement at Branxton about 5.30am on Wednesday, July 15, when they detected the allegedly stolen vehicle speeding in the 110kmh zone.
The driver allegedly failed to stop as directed and police gave chase.
The alleged pursuit continued for about 40km to the Minmi Road roundabout, where the vehicle collided with another car, causing the second one to roll.
No injuries were reported.
Police said the driver then ran from the scene and into nearby bushland. The dog squad was called in to assist and 39-year-old Jeremy Clyde Sampson was arrested a short time later.
Sampson was taken to Toronto Police Station and charged with speeding, police pursuit, driving with an expired licence, not giving particulars to another driver, and driving a stolen vehicle.
Police allege the vehicle was stolen from Tamworth, 230km north of Branxton, overnight.
Sampson has faced bail court, where his bid for release was refused. Sampson will remain behind bars ahead of his next appearance at Toronto Local Court later this month.
