Stolen NRLW Premiership ring recovered by police, two men charged

Former Knight Millie Elliott took to social media to say her ring had been stolen on October 13, police allege a 24-year-old man was responsible.

A NRLW Premiership ring allegedly stolen during a break-in and passed onto a business has been recovered and two men have been charged.

Police were called to a Merewether home at about 5am on October 12 after reports of a break-and-enter.

Handbags, bank cards, cash and a 2024 NRLW Premiership ring were stolen from the property, police allege.

Newcastle police launched an investigation and raided a house at Hamilton South on October 16.

Police allegedly uncovered several items they believe were stolen during the break-in, but the Premiership ring could not be found.

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated break-and-enter, break-and-enter with intent, enter a building or land with the intent to commit an indictable offence, and a fraud allegation.

He was refused bail to face court that same day, where he was remanded in custody to front Newcastle Local Court again on December 11.

The Premiership ring remained missing for weeks, before police received information about it from a business in Newcastle on November 8.

Officers attended and recovered the ring before continuing their investigations.

Police arrested a 37-year-old man on Hunter Street at about 10am on Thursday, November 14, and took him to Newcastle Police Station.

He was charged with receiving stolen property.

He faced Newcastle Local Court later that day and was granted strict conditional bail to face the same court early next year.

Former Newcastle Knight Millie Elliott posted on social media on October 13 that someone had allegedly broken into her home and stolen her Premiership ring.

She urged people at the time to keep an eye out for it because if they saw someone with it, "it's probably not theirs".

Ms Elliott was on the Premiership-winning NRLW Roosters side for the 2024 season.
