Steve Cooper delivers verdict on Nottingham Forest draw with Manchester City

Head coach Steve Cooper thanked his Nottingham Forest players for “sticking to the plan” as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Manchester City.

The Reds had fallen behind to Bernardo Silva’s strike just before half-time. They kept going, though, and their never-say-die-attitude paid off, despite coming under a lot of pressure.

Some solid defending and some crucial saves by Keylor Navas helped keep the hosts in with a chance in the second half. And Wood ensured they capitalised, slotting in Morgan Gibbs-White’s cross in the 84th minute.

“We knew the game was going to look like it did; we planned for the game to look like it did,” said Cooper.

“You don't say it too much before the game, but you are playing against an incredible team; for me, probably the best team in the world at domestic level, and I think you have to sacrifice the ideals in the game that you want to try to get something out of it.

“That is how the game was. We put a plan in place to stay in the game for as long as we could.

“They had loads of the ball and loads of the territory, but we defended well. I’ve just got loads of gratitude to the players, for listening and sticking to the plan, giving up what we really want to do in a game of football to try to get something out of it.

“We managed to stay in the game and got the equaliser. We have to be satisfied. It is a positive result and one that will hopefully help.”
