Steve Bruce gives his honest opinion on Erik ten Hag and the pressure on him at Man Utd

Steve Bruce reckons Erik ten Hag's got a dream job at Old Trafford - even if Manchester United have lost their way.

Far from believing Dutch boss, Ten Hag has been handed a poisoned chalice Red's hero Bruce is convinced the former Ajax coach has the chance of a lifetime to turn United into a success again.

"Look, there's no disputing he's got a big job on his hand but he comes highly qualified and they made a great start beating Liverpool," said Bruce. "That immediately gives him some kudos and it gives everyone at Old Trafford a bit of hope. Yes, he's got the juggernaut of Man United to turn around but what an opportunity he's got.

"It's a wonderful chance and I'm sure he'll relish the challenge of it, he's got to turn the sleeping giant back into what it was and I wish him the best of luck.

"Nothing lasts forever I think everyone knew it would be difficult to replace Sir Alex in what he achieved and when you look back on it now what he did was quite remarkable.

"It's almost 10 years since he left and 10 years without a title. United have got to be getting back to that standard and that's the job for Ten Hag. It's been a difficult time and of course, they've won a few cups but it's a big challenge ahead."

As for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, Bruce is impressed.

"He's made some big calls of the last year or two on players like Pierre-Emerick Abamauyang but they now look a very good and young team who will only get better," he added.

"It's still early but straight away you could see he had a plan of how they want to go about it and they look now - after a couple of years of difficulty - that they are going in the right direction which everyone can see."
