Stephen King’s foundation helped heat Maine homes as radio fundraiser raised $241,820 for residents

In December 2011, international bestselling author Stephen King and his wife, Tabitha, helped Maine families facing a difficult winter by donating $120,000 to a home-heating fundraiser organised through the author’s radio station. The campaign eventually raised $241,820, surpassing its original goal as residents confronted higher heating costs and reduced federal assistance. The Bangor Daily News reported that the Kings’ contribution came through the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation, which has long supported community organisations and social causes in Maine. The fundraiser offered immediate help to people who might otherwise have had to choose between heating their homes, buying food and paying other essential bills during the state’s cold winter months.
