Starfield is coming to PS5 on April 7, 2026. The PlayStation version was confirmed in March.
The game already has its own PlayStation Store page, and it’s primed to launch with additional content that will become available on all platforms at the same time.
Release date and what’s included with it
Starfield’s PS5 release is bundled into the game’s major content overhaul and new DLCs. On April 7, the game launches on PlayStation 5 alongside Free Lanes, the biggest free update yet, and Terran Armada, a new story DLC.
That means PS5 players are not getting an old version of the game, but will get access to the updated one alongside everyone else.
Free Lanes is a free update for all players, and it addresses several major points of criticism the game received at launch. It adds freer space travel within star systems, more space encounters, a new resource for gear and ship customization, and new ways to upgrade Starborn abilities and carry gear into New Game+.

The ability to freely fly in space is what everyone expected from Starfield on release, and the fact that much of it was hidden behind loading screens instead took away much of the magic of space. Now, you’ll be able to travel between the planets in the No Man’s Sky style, which was also a game that was initially criticized, but managed to turn the narrative around with meaningful updates.
Terran Armada is the new paid story DLC. It adds a new threat in the Settled Systems centered on a highly advanced robotic force, plus a new Companion, new tech, and new rewards. Terran Armada can be bought on its own, but it is also included in the Premium Edition and the Premium Edition Upgrade.
How to buy Starfield on PS5
There are two main Starfield editions on the PlayStation Store: the Standard Edition is listed at $49.99 and includes the base game, while the Premium Edition is listed at $69.99 and includes the base game, Terran Armada, Shattered Space, 1,000 Creation Credits, the Constellation Skin Pack, and access to the digital artbook and soundtrack.
Pre-orders also include the Old Mars Skin Pack, which comes with bonus items for the Laser Cutter, Deep Mining Helmet, and Deep Mining Pack.
This price is a major cut from the $69.99 the game initially launched at for the Standard Edition, so for the same price, PlayStation players are immediately receiving more content. It’s notable, however, that Bethesda cut the game’s price on other platforms as well.
Which games does Starfield compete against
Xbox and Bethesda picked a clever window to release Starfield’s PS5 version in, as there are no major releases that could compete with it in the immediate vicinity. The biggest rivals for the game are:
- Hades II (April 14) – Godlike Roguelike is also getting a console release in April, but it feels like the audiences for these games don’t intersect much.
- Pragmata (April 17) – Capcom’s newest sci-fi action-adventure is the closest AAA title that could compete with Starfield for your money.
- Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred (April 28) – The major expansion to Diablo IV, Lord of Hatred is coming out closer to the end of the month, but it’s still a major draw for its audience.
- Saros (April 30) – Housemarque’s successor to Returnal, this action roguelite is the next big PlayStation exclusive that could make people rethink spending on anything else.
PS5 features

The PS5 version includes platform-specific features like Adaptive triggers that change based on weapons and ship loadouts, the DualSense light bar, which reflects health and ship integrity, the touchpad that is used for switching POV or opening key tools, and some audio being routed through the controller speaker.
Starfield is also enhanced for PS5 Pro, with 4K/30fps Visual mode and a 60fps Performance mode with improved visuals compared to the base PS5.
